	Official Ballot Statement
                   Statement of JAY THOMAS, Candidate for
                           Governing Board Member
   Occupation: Incumbent
   Age: 46
   Education and Qualifications:
   
   As a school board member for the past four years I have helped to keep
   Los Altos schools academically strong and the best in the area. This
   has been the result of the cooperation between the board, teachers and
   administrators, a cooperation that is unique to our district and one
   of which I am personally proud.
   
   As board president I personally helped Los Altos schools to be one of
   the first to implement class size reductions. Additionally, I
   participated in the cooperative task force between the City, user
   groups and the School District that resulted in the improvement of the
   playing fields so heavily used by our youth for sports.
   
   I am a 20 year resident of Los Altos whose children still attend Los
   Altos schools. I look forward to the challenges the district faces in
   the next four years. I plan to use my experience to keep Los Altos
   schools strong and to ensure they are prepared to educate our children
   in the 21st century.
