Statement of JOHN WILLIAM STATTON, Candidate for
City Council Member
Occupation: Chamber Executive Director
Education and Qualifications:
We all call Cupertino home. I believe Cupertino is strongest when we
work together for our common future. I need your support to keep our
city a great place to live and raise families.
* City Budget Expertise - Cupertino is a $22 million business that
requires professional management. From my experience at Apple and
as Executive Director of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce, I have
developed the necessary financial management skills for efficient
oversight.
* Library & Senior Center Expansion - Our city is accumulating a $31
million surplus. I believe now is the time to expand and improve
the senior center and library. Set a prudent reserve level and
actively manage our resources, or give it back to the taxpayers.
* Education & Community Development - City partnerships with
neighborhood schools are providing a foundation for local
educational excellence. Encouraging volunteerism, 4th of July
fireworks and neighborhood emergency preparedness are also
important civic values and city activities.
* Open Space, Slow Growth - I was on the team that saved Blackberry
Farm as open space for our community. We need to carefully control
growth so we can continue to have a high quality place to call
home.
