Statement of MICHAEL SZYMANSKI, Candidate for
City Council Member, Seat 2
Occupation: Businessman
Age: 42
Education and Qualifications:
Juris Doctor, Law Degree, Lincoln Law School; MA, Political Science,
The Ohio State University, BA, History/Communication Arts, James
Madison University. Graduate, Leadership Sunnyvale
I have always been interested in how the City Council can improve the
lives of people in our community. I have seen Sunnyvale grow and
prosper and I attribute this prosperity to well managed city
government and a strong city council. It is my desire to be an active
participant in developing and forming policies which will continue
this tradition and preserve the character of our community.
Currently, I serve the citizens of Sunnyvale as a Planning
Commissioner helping develop policies which shape the identity of the
city. As a Commissioner I have continually sought to improve the
quality of life for Sunnyvale residents by preventing high density
development within established neighborhoods when inappropriate. We
must resist the temptation to redevelop for the sake of redevelopment.
We need to start planning now for the future and not just fixing the
problems of today. The uncertainty of NASA's commitment to Moffett
Field represents a concern for all Sunnyvale citizens. The Moffett
Field Community Advisory Committee has determined several viable uses
for the land and the council needs to explore these options and take
the initiative.
To stimulate economic growth, Sunnyvale needs to create and nurture an
environment conducive for small and large businesses to prosper. I
will work closely with the city and the business community to attract
quality businesses.
My wife and I, and our two children live in a great city and it is
important to give back to that city. I have coached in the youth
basketball league for ten years, and participated in "Principal for a
Day" for the past three years at Fremont High School, Stocklmeir and
Bishop Elementary schools. At Stocklmeir, I was instrumental in having
the bus driveway closed off, resulting in a safer campus for students.
Sunnyvale needs experienced and responsible leadership. We must pursue
innovative partnerships between the city, schools and businesses in
order to maximize benefits for all citizens. I will bring integrity,
leadership and vision to the Council.
It is my hope that you share my commitment and vision for Sunnyvale.
Together we can work to make Sunnyvale an even better place to live
and prosper. Please vote for Michael Szymanski for Seat #2.
