                Statement of PETE VALDEZ JR., Candidate for
                            Member, City Council
   Occupation: Business Consultant
   Age: 52
   Education and Qualifications:
   
   MA Education, University of San Francisco, 1981
   BA Sociology, California State University, Stanislaus, 1973
   AA Liberal Arts, Gavilan College, 1971
   Community College Teaching Credentials, (Life Time) Business
   Management, 1988
   Twenty years administration, planning, budgeting and proposal writing.
   I am a native Gilroyan, homeowner and married (Linda) with two
   children (Christina - age 25 and Pete Joseph - age 18, both graduates
   of local schools). Gilroy is very special to me as I know it is for
   you.
   
   The quality of life in our community is top priority. My experience on
   the council as well as my professional career has prepared me to
   effectively contribute to resolution of critical issues now facing
   Gilroy. We cannot allow growth to out-strip our municipal services,
   particularly public safety.
   I pledge to work towards:
   
   Enhancing our quality of life,
   Amplifying efforts against crime, drugs and gangs,
   Managed and planned growth in commercial, industrial and residential
   areas,
   Maintain/enhance current level of municipal services,
   Advocating affordable housing,
   Representing our community with pride and integrity,
   Fostering communications and consensus throughout our community,
   I ask for your vote and participation to make Gilroy a better place to
   live, work and recreate.
