              Statement of SUELLEN C. ROWLISON, Candidate for
                                   Mayor
   Occupation: Public Health Nurse
   Age: 58
   Education and Qualifications:
   As Mayor I envision building community with neighborhoods that respect
   and care for each other. As a public health nurse I care about the
   health of families and neighborhoods, the environment, and our rural
   agricultural setting. Gilroy has been my home for 25 years.
     * In 1995 you re-elected me to a second term on the Gilroy City
       Council. Since then I have helped establish the California
       Conservation Corps in Gilroy; develop Gilroy's Cultural Arts
       Master Plan; and expand City involvement with PeaceBuilders.
     * Economic growth and jobs for our youth and adults are important.
       That is why I support the Economic Development Corporation, the
       Gilroy Downtown Development Corporation, Joint Venture: Silicon
       Valley, more train service, restoration of the Train Depot, and
       acquiring the former Strand Theater as a performing and visual
       arts center. I believe growth should be moderate, balancing houses
       with jobs, offering variety in housing and prices.
     * I support ACT (Anti-Crime Team), COPPS (Community Oriented
       Policing and Problem Solving). Neighborhood Development, and
       prevention programs of the Gilroy Youth Center, Parks and
       Recreation, and Cultural Arts.
     * My leadership style is team work. Let us build community together.
       I ask for your vote and the opportunity to be Mayor.
