Although Santa Clara County's economy is improving, the health condition of our most vulnerable citizens is not improving.I have had involvement with health care community resources to assist family members and friends with chronic and long-term health problems. My experiences have proven to me the value of preventive care. Preventive care protects us from poor health, lost productivity and higher costs. It is deplorable that although our economy is improving in Santa Clara County, what is not improving is the health condition of our people, particularly those who are vulnerable--the very young and the very old. As a member of the Assembly Health Committee, I have worked to expand health coverage to millions of uninsured California, while ensuring that managed care enrollees are protected by meaningful quality standards and critical oversight care. I have also fought to focus more attention on women's health issues, like osteoporosis and breast cancer. During my time in the State Assembly, I have authored or supported:
