Fiscal Responsibility

Gayle believes that elected representatives have an obligation to eliminate government waste and wisely manage their constituents' tax dollars. She believes our county can and must live within its means. Gayle is committed to holding down rising government expenses by finding inovative solutions to county budget problems. This means not resorting to higher taxes and not compromising essential services.

Public Health & Safety

Emergency Services: Hospital emergency rooms need to remain open. We must change the state law to allow LOCAL control of these vital emergency services.

Quick medical attention saves lives! I support expansion of the paramedic program. A trained paramedic should be on every fire truck. Fire and rescue services must be there when you need them.

I have repeatedly told Industry that unless they operate safely and cleanly they will be shut down. We cannot compromise public and worker safety because or poor management or for the sake of profits.

I took a leadership role in passing the Contra Costa County Industrial Safety Ordinance - the toughest industrial safety ordinance in the nation.

Transportation

Solving our congestion problems must be at the top of Contra Costa's tasks. The improvements to the western end of Highway 4 is presently being built - plans for a full-freeway design must be next. I have worked hard to keep my promise that Highway 4 and the Cummins Skyway would become a reality.

We must also address the construction of the fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel and make a strong committment to solving our regional traffic bottlenecks.

We must start planning a regional public transportation system that will relieve the congestion of automobiles on our local highways. Until we develop a high quality public transportation system that people choose to use rather than drive, we will continue to face congestion.
