I grew up in Chicago, Ill. and came to the Bay Area in 1959. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and went on to get my teaching credential at the University of Chicago. I taught two years in Chicago and started teaching at Youth Guidance Center in San Francisco in 1960. I retired from teaching in 1994. I am married to George and have one daughter, Kim. I began my political career in 1979 when I ran as a write in candidate for the Jefferson Union High School District Board of Trustees. I received a little under 1,000 votes and decided to really get involved with the political process. The 1,000 votes were not enough to get me elected to that seat. That is when I got involved with the Democratic Party Central Committee. I became an alternate on the Committee and eventually ran for one of the seats. I won a seat on the Central Committee and have been involved to this day. I've gone to most of the State Conventions and went to the National Convention in Chicago. I also hope to go to the National Convention in Los Angeles this August. I also eventually won a seat on the Jefferson Union High School District in 1981 and was Chair 3 times during my 13 years as Trustee. I retired from teaching in 1994 and felt I would need some new interests to add to my old interests. In November of 1994 I ran and won a seat on the Pacifica City Council. I was Mayor in 1996 and Mayor Pro-tem in 1995. I ran for a second term in 1998 and remain a City Council member. |
