My 24 years on the board have demonstrated my sincere interest in service to the community. I'm a 28 year resident of Union City and a life-time resident of Alameda County. I'm a first generation, Hispanic (my middle name is "America")and I am very proud to be viewed as a role model and leader in my community. My husband, Dan, and I have had 2 children graduate from James Logan High School while I was on the board and currently have a granddaughter who is in middle school in the District. I have a vested interest in making sure all our students are more than adequately prepared for the future. I became involved in the school district as a parent activist and classroom volunteer when my children entered school. I immediately became interested in the decision making process at the school and district level becoming a regular attendee of board meetings where the real decisions were being made. It has been a very rewarding experience involving hard work and dedication in what I now realize is a labor of love - making certain students succeed. I have served as board representative to the SELPA Special Education Local Planning Area Board, Mission Valley ROP Regional Occupational Program Board, ACSBA Alameda County School Board Association Board, SCPC School Community Program Council, and CALSSD California Association of Small School Districts. I was also a member of the delegation that travelled to Philadelphia to participate in the All America City competition. I was part of the team presentation that helped our city win the "All America City" award in June,1999. |
