I have been a resident of the John Swett Unified School District since 1975. After graduating from California State University, Stanislaus, with a Social Science degree, I was accepted into the Teaching Credential Program at California State University, Hayward. I completed the requirements for an Early Childhood Credential, began teaching, and earned a "Lifetime" Early Childhood Credential in 1980. I continued my college education at University of California, Berkeley, and completed the classes for a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 1981. I have taught students of a variety of ages, in a wide variety of settings, for more than 20 years. I worked as the "Head Teacher/Assistant Curriculum Coordinator" in a Martinez preschool for more than three years. I then worked with "Communicatively Handicapped" children in the Martinez Unified School District for one year. Seeking a variety of experience, I was a substitute teacher in Vallejo, Martinez, and Richmond Unified School Districts for three years. I then worked as an Environmental Educator at Marine World Africa USA for four years. While working at Marine World, I spent one year as the "Living Science Program Coordinator/Consultant" with the Vallejo City Unified School District. I've worked as a "Contract Teacher", teaching Natural Science classes, for various agencies, including The Lindsay Museum in Walnut Creek, the Crockett Community Center, and Marine World Africa USA. When my son entered the John Swett School District, in 1989, I worked for the district, as a substitute teacher, independent study teacher, and "in-house suspension" instuctor, as well as became a "Room Mom", and a volunteer in the district. I was a Classroom Teacher and a Science Specialist in the Martinez Unified School District from 1995 through 1998. I am presently completing a Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship Program with the Lindsay Wildlife Museum (where I've been a volunteer since 1985). I will be spending this coming school year attending a variety of classes, and working in Environmental Education. If I am elected to the School Board, I will spend the next four years working to serve our students, teachers, parents, and communities. |
