Centerline Mass TransitBy Kenneth L. "Ken" HansenCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Irvine | |

OCTA proposes a train from Fullerton to Irvine with routes disecting Irvine villages. The OCTA recommedation for a rail system through Irvine is incompatible to the adjoining residents in Woodbridge. Although parking facilities and other amenities are offered, OCTA has not completed the necessary community effort in Irvine to inform homeowners of the impact of such a facility. As a Transportation Commissioner and as a Planning Commissioner, I opposed both proposals from OCTA for a $1-2 billion rail system to Irvine. I will not support a train in Woodbridge with the information currently available. I do believe mass transit is a necessary component of our future transportation requirements but with a heavy focus on morning and evening commute to and from work places. Fare box recovery must be increased to reduce the massive tax burden on taxpayers that will be required to foot this bill. |
