Candidate Statement

By Beth L. Krom

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Irvine

This information is provided by the candidate
My candidate statement captures the essence of my background and political objectives
It's time for new voices in city government. As a community advocate, I want to ensure that Irvine's interests<not special interests<are represented by our City Council.

I graduated from the University of Texas in 1981 and taught visually impaired children. When my husband and I moved to Irvine, we wanted what every young couple wants: safe neighborhoods, excellent schools, and outstanding community programs. Irvine offered it all! Fifteen years and three children later, we are amazed by the growth of Irvine's vibrant, diverse population.

Unfortunately, the County's ill-conceived El Toro Airport Plan would undermine the quality of life we enjoy. As your Councilmember, I pledge to join other Councilmembers in Irvine1s effort to stop El Toro Airport and replace it with a magnificent Great Park that will enhance, not destroy, our environment.

Irvine is a community of villages, but we need to face our common concerns, such as

the proposed County jail expansion near Northwood and excessive traffic and high-density development near Woodbridge and Westpark. We also need to protect hillside open space and provide greater support to our schools, our youth, and to seniors and people with disabilities.

With your support, I can make a real difference!
