School district should have contractors and consultants working on bond program develop on the job training programs for our students. In particular those in adult schools and learning centers without jobs.November 7, 2000 voters will go to the polls to decide whether the Sweetwater Union High School District can issue $189 million in bonds. It is proposed that these bonds will be used for deferred maintenance, modification, and new schools. Tony Inocentes supports the passage of this bond initiative. However, there is an unnoticed golden feather of opportunity that will come with the passage of this bond issue that can help Sweetwater Union High School District students and residents. Traditionally contractors and consultants are hired to carry out the work proposed under a bond program with little direction or emphasis on local programs that can maximize the dollars in the bond for community benefit. Tony Inocentes proposes that an on the job training program be developed for at risk youth, adult, and learning center students in cooperation with the contractors and consultants that work on the bond program. Students that qualify for the program would learn a trade, earn money, and inherit a different perspective and pride about the school district. Moreover, the dollars would remain local benefiting the local merchant base of the south bay. A win win situation for all involved! An additional program could be set up for workfare and local residents. The concept being brought forth is to maximize the use of the bond dollars in our community. So often bond money comes into a community but the major portion of the dollars will quickly leave the community to other counties and states because that's where the contractors and consultants are headquarterd. Should a program be developed as proposed, the dollars would remain in our community allowing a maximum benefit to district students, residents, and merchants. It just makes sense and cents! It also makes sense to add a new demension to the Sweetwater Union High School District Board of Trustees that begins by casting your vote for Tony Inocentes for seat #2 on November 7. |
