THE NEED TO QUESTION THE DUKE ENERGY PROJECTBy Harold A. "Curry" CurryCandidate for Mayor; City of Morro Bay | |

THIS DECISION IS GOING TO EFFECT MORRO BAY FOR THE NEXT 50 YEARS. WE HAVE TO BE ABSOLUTELY SURE IT'S THE CORRECT ONE.I am not convinced that all aspects of this p roject have been looked at objectively. I would want more studies done to assure that there is absolutely no health or environmental risk that the people of Morro Bay will face now or in the future. I am suspicious of this rush to build a new plant and would look at Duke upgrading the old one. Duke's 2 million dollars a year may influence some people to back this project, but I feel that the health and welfare of the people of Morro Bay comes first, not matter what the offer is. Some people here complain of respiratory problems and skin irritations that have developed recently since Duke stepped up production in its facilities. I would insist that these matters be looked into before granting Duke permission to build an even larger plant. It's simple math that a larger plant produces more pollutants. I also would never allow this to pass without the approval of the people of Morro Bay. This would have to be put on the ballot in PLAIN ENGLISH with NO ads to try to trick the voters. |
