Alameda County, CA | March 5, 2002 Election |
Fiscal ResponsiblityBy Roy E. GordonCandidate for Member of City Council; City of Hayward | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The Hayward City Council needs to prioritize their spending in order to provide the best possible service to the citizens of Hayward. On September 11, 2001, while the rest of the nation watched in horror as terrorists attacked the United States, the Hayward City Council voted to double their salaries from $12,500 to $25,000 per year. Although I support a reasonable salary increase, and have protested their increase at City Council meetings as excessive, no one on the Council has agreed to lower that amount. If elected, I will propose an ordinance to reverse the City Councils' decision to double their salary. If they won't reverse their decision, I will donate my excess earnings, estimated at $550 per month, to Hayward charities. During the last council meeting of each month, I will announce the name of the receiving charity. Another example of wasted spending is the $500,000 spent by the Hayward City Council on a study to build a tunnel in the downtown area. |
