Dear Friends,

As some of you know, I currently serve as President of the County
Board of Education. I strongly support Jerome Wiggins for re-election to our
board, in light of his long-standing program support and budget advocacy for
young people served in the juvenile court and community school system. The
needs of these kids are vast. Jerome, along with others on the board, were
successful in reversing the drastic cuts to educational programs that had
been proposed by the county office administration. I am pleased to share with
you Rep. Barbara Lee's position on Jerry's re-election (pasted below). Thanks
for your consideration.

Gay Plair Cobb,President
Alameda County Board of Education

Dear Friends,
I write to ask you to join me in supporting Jerry Wiggins for Reelection to
the Alameda County Board of Education, Trustee Area One which includes the
cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Piedmont and portions of North
Oakland, Chinatown and West Oakland. Jerry has demonstrated time and time
again his commitment to meeting the critical needs of young people in the
juvenile court and community school system, which is overseen by the Board.

By the vote of his colleagues, Jerry was elected President of the County
Board in 1994 and 1999 and currently serves as Vice President and Chair of
the Board's Budget Committee. In 1996, Jerry was elected to the state-wide
position of president of the California County Boards of Education (CCBE) and
has also served on the Board of Directors of the California School Boards
Association (CSBA). Currently, Jerry is a member of the Executive Board of
the Alameda County School Boards Association (ACSBA) and, since 1994, has
represented the Association on the Board of Managers, California
Interscholastic Federation/ North Coast Section, which oversees high school
sports programs in the Eastbay.

He is the father of two young men educated in the Berkeley public schools
and the spouse of long time community activist and veteran educator, Dorothy
Wiggins, principal at Claremont Middle School. In his local community Jerry
has been an advocate and activist for public school financing and drop out
prevention programs. As a parent, his service includes membership on the
Berkeley Unified School District Budget Committee, the Facilities Task Force,
and the coaching staff of Oakland Babe Ruth Baseball, the Oakland Oaks and
the Rattlers. Jerry is committed to serving the needs of local school
districts as well as to serving the needs of "at risk" students in Alameda
County.

I ask you to join me, Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, Alameda County
Board of Education President Gay Plair Cobb, Berkeley City Councilmember
Maudelle Shirek,Oakland City Councilmembers Nancy Nadel and Larry Reid,
former Assemblymember Tom Bates, and two highly respected veteran educators,
former Alameda County Schools Superintendents Augie Scornaienchi and Cheryl
Hightower and many others throughout the Bay Area in supporting Jerry's
re-election to the Alameda County Board of Education.

Respectfully,
Barbara Lee
Member of Congress
