Problems With Recruitment and Retainment of Deputy SheriffsBy Steven R. VillegasCandidate for Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator; County of Monterey | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I'm running for office to get the department in the right direction to achieve the goals and objectives that we set out to reach. Such goals and objectives are aggressive recruiting and retainment of deputy sheriffs. We cannot reach those goals under our present plan. One of my most important goals will be to aggressively recruit and retain new deputies to the Monterey County Sheriff's Department. We must continue our aggressive recruiting approach to achieve our maximum staffing levels so the highest level of professional service may be provided to our community. We will aggressively recruit at job fairs held at college universities, county fairs, military bases, and within our local community. When we reach our maximum staffing levels, we can re-create our gang unit to battle our local gang problem within the community. We will be able to increase our staffing level of the Special Enforcement Detail (SED) that can combat the special problems that contaminate our community that overwhelm the patrol deputies. |
