Candidate for Mayor; City of San Jose

Letter to my Neighbors in San Jose
Dear Neighbor,

My name is Joel VanLandingham. I am running for San Jose Mayor because I want to bring "No Nonsense" business experience to City Hall.

I am a successful businessman who has lived and worked in San Jose for 20 years. I am a "family man" and proud new father. I have always been close to my family and I believe we should do everything we can to preserve the integrity of our families, focusing on: our communities, our neighborhoods and especially the education of our children.

When I hold my new baby daughter, I think about her future and I worry about San Jose's future. Our City faces many challenges, and what we need now is a Mayor who has "REAL WORLD" business experience, someone that is not a politician, but an executive that can manage people, projects and budgets.

I'm stepping forward to offer a Real Choice and New Ideas.

For example:

  • I oppose construction of a new downtown City Hall that will cost taxpayers about $392 million to build (an estimated total of $800 Million with all debt services included). We should lease or purchase existing vacant office to meet the needs of city government.

  • I will cap utility tax rates so San Jose businesses and residents wonąt have to pay City Hall when electricity rates skyrocket.

I'm not a Politician. I'm a successful businessman who cares about San Jose. If elected Mayor, I will work hard, I will not pander to special interests, I will not make promises I can't keep and I will focus on the things that will make your life better as a resident of San Jose.

I think we need to focus our efforts into our Communities and Neighborhoods:

We must preserve the integrity of our Neighborhoods andProtect our Children, Families and Neighbors.

· The education of our children

· Support our teachers and schools

· The revitalization of our "High Tech" industry

It's not just jobs; it is careers that are currently at stake.

We need to stand together as Strong Communities, and let city hall know it's time for a change. I believe I will be a better leader than the current mayor. I will be accessible. I will promote excellence, and I will work to bring out the best in those who work for our city.

I believe if you hire the best people and support them in doing their jobs, success is inevitable.

I have helped to take High Tech start-ups and established technology companies to the next level. I work with CEO's and top managers at companies like: Adaptec, Big Bear Networks, Cadence, Macromedia, Predictive Systems, and Western Digital. I'm well respected for my understanding of technology and my ability to bring out the best in the people I work with.

I will propose ways to improve San Jose's business climate, create jobs and opportunities and pay for schools, parks, libraries, police and fire services without having to ask burdened taxpayers for more money.

Today, our challenges are more important than ever.

If you believe it's time for a No Nonsense approach at City Hall, I ask for your vote.
