The Role of Refineries in Martinez

By Dick Duncan

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Martinez

This information is provided by the candidate
The refineries and other industrial operations must conduct clean, safe operations for both employees and their surrounding residential neighbors.
Refineries in and near Martinez have a responsibility to be good neighbors and to support and participate in the community and its activities. Most importantly, the refineries and other industrial operations must conduct clean, safe operations for both employees and their surrounding residential neighbors. In short, these industrial facilities have a responsibility to minimize the negative physical impacts of their presence while contributing to offsetting positive efforts to enhance the image of the community. It is unfortunate that tax revenues generated by the Martinez Shell Refinery go primarily to the County, regardless of the fact that the refinery is "in Martinez." As a responsible City Council member, I would open the dialogue and endeavor to come to an equitable solution to this potential revenue source.
