Political Philosophy for Justin Masters
Candidate for |

|
I am by nature conservative, having long had a history of making do with what I have, and avoiding infringements on others or expecting them to carry my burdens in an undue manner. I grew up in a poor family, and worked my way up in a long and difficult journey of schooling, hard work and have grown immensely because of it. And I feel that if I can grow in a positive manner, so can others. As such, "hand outs" are a hard thing for me to accept. I prefer "hand-ups", as in helping people to grow in a positive way. I am a registered Independent (due to past primary voting rules), but I tend to vote more in a republican direction. However I do not blindly follow for all republican-oriented issues or candidates. I prefer a thoughtful analysis of pro's and con's, along with a longer term view and it's impact on the greatest number of people. I also seek out and support people of integrity. And feel that "by their fruits" I get a sense of who they are inside and what they stand for. I prefer a common sense method of making decisions with the greatest benefit to all citizens, including myself, my family, my friends and neighbors. If I can't feel good about explaining my position to others in public, then I have no part in trying to tell them what they should accept. This is a universal courtesy that should be extended to all. As such, I believe that ALL citizens should be FULLY informed and have a problem with misleading the public or "selling them a bag of rocks". That's why I'm a big proponent of educating citizens in the governmental process. In a nutshell, integrity is one of my most cherished values, and one earned slowly, treasured highly, and when attacked, defended vigorously. One might ask why I seek a political office, which usually is portrayed as lacking integrity... I want to make changes in what I feel are positive areas. Yes, it will mean some compromise - I can't get all that I want. But I'll contribute in the best way I know how. And when I'm wrong, I have no problem apologizing. And if put there by the public, I'll be responsible and accountable to the public. And I remain accessible to the public. I'm in the phonebook. |
