I am running for reelection to the Board of Directors of the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD). WRD replenishes and manages the groundwater basin for the benefit of nearly 4 million people in Los Angeles County who live in 43 cities, including Long Beach, Lakewood and Cerritos.

During my tenure as President of the Board, WRD
has become the most cost-effective water agency in Southern California and a statewide leader in the fight to assure an adequate supply of high quality clean water for the businesses and residents we serve.

- The rates we charge our customers are the
lowest rates in the region-four times less than
the cost of imported water from the Colorado
River or Northern California.

- WRD has the most sophisticated groundwater
quality monitoring system in the state. Our
cleanup projects make the quality of the
groundwater we manage the best anywhere.

- We are the worldwide leader in preventing
seawater intrusion into the drinking water
supplies along the coast, protecting the water
of cities like Long Beach.

- And we are pioneers in the conjunctive use of
water- using various sources at various times
to achieve cost savings and to nurture and
manage water resources in the region
efficiently.

As a recent State Audit Report concluded, the
administration and management of the WRD has markedly improved under my Presidency. I want to continue those improvements and build upon the record of success we have enjoyed in providing the best quality water at the best possible price.

I am the only candidate for WRD in this area with
demonstrated water expertise. Prior to my service on the WRD Board, I was President of the Long Beach Water Commission. I grew up in Long Beach and have practiced law there for many years. I currently serve as an Arbitrator and Mediator.

Continuing a lifelong commitment to community
service, I am currently Chairman-elect of the Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Board of Directors of St. Mary Medical Center, and Chairman of the Library Foundation Family Learning Center Committee.
