I have been a commercial fish buyer for the past 10 years purchasing live fish in California, Oregon, and Washington. In 1997, my family and business settled here in Moss Landing. From 1997 and up to date, I have been very involved in fishery managment. I was nominated to be a panelist at the Rockfish Forum held by Pacific Marine Conservation Council and Monterey Bay Aquarium in March of 1999 and most recently was appointed by Fish and Game to represent the wholesale and retail buyers of California that purchase nearshore finfish for the past 1 1/2 years. Fish and Game named our panel (which consisted of enviornmentals, biologist, scientist, recreational and commercial fisherman, and myself) the Nearshore Fishery Advisory Committee. This committee was responsible for assisting Fish and Game in assembling a nearshore Fishery Management Plan. I co-organized the commercial fisherman in California and formed the West Coast Shallow Water Live Fishery Alliance. This organization assisted in helping the commercial fisherman stay up to date on meeting locations, pending regualatory changes from both the Federal and State managers, and immediate notification of any assistance they may need. I also assisted the fisherman and businesses in representing their points of view and ideas to management taking their messessages both at meetings in California and when they are held out of state. |
