I was born in Feffernitz Austria in 1954. My parents legally immigrated to the United States in 1956 and I have called Anaheim my home since then.

I attended Mann and Henry elementary schools, Fremont Jr. High and graduated from Anaheim High in 1972. I obtained an AA degree in Police Science from Fullerton College and then spent 3 years in the Army as a military police officer. I served in Korea and at Ft. Meade, Maryland and I am considered a Vietnam era veteran.

Upon returning from serving in the Army, I put myself through the Rio Hondo Police Academy and was hired by the city of Pomona as a police officer. After severing just over two years in Pomona, I was hired by Anaheim PD and have been working there ever since. During my time at Pomona and my first few years at Anaheim, I continued my education and obtained a BA degree in Criminal Justice from CSUF and then obtained a Master's degree in Public Administration and won the Baldwin award for outstand MPA student of 1988.

I married my wife, Susie Dye in 1975 and we have two children, both graduates of AUHSD and currently in local colleges. We have two dogs and two cats.

I first entered politics in 1994 when I was very frustrated with what I saw going on in our educational system. As a police officer, I was arresting many "D" and "F" students. I dawned on me that A and B students were not getting arrested and I felt that if I could make a difference for these students by showing them that they have a future, then maybe I wouldn't have to work so hard at arresting them. It has been hard work, but incrementally the mind set has been changing and we are doing better than before, but not good enough to satisfy me. I will continue to work at improving our educational system so that we get "private education quality for public education cost".
