My wife, Nancy, and I are the proud parents of four Milpitas Unified Kids. Nicole is in her junior year at SJSU and is studying to be an elementary school teacher. She would like to teach at Rose Elementary School. Chris is a senior at MHS, plays soccer and is an Eagle Scout. Jackie is a freshman at MHS, also plays soccer and would like to be a marine biologist or a zoologist. Mari is in fifth grade at Rose. She is also a soccer player and was just elected as the ASB vice-president at Rose. We are very lucky to be blessed with four great children and really enjoy being apart of their lives. Nancy is a public works inspector and works for the City of Milpitas. Nancy has always been very active in our children's education from the PTO at Rose to the PTSA and SSC at Rancho Middle School to the PTSA and SSC and Athletic Boosters at MHS to the District's Family Life and Sex Education Committee. Nancy has also been active in all our kids extra curricular activities. I am a principal construction inspector for the City of San Jose for almost 24 years. I supervise a group of 11 inspectors who administer tens of millions of dollars in Public Works projects each year. My school "career" started 15 years ago at Rose, when Nicole was in kindergarten. I ran for the School Site Council (SSC) and was elected. I volunteered to fill the vacant vice president position of the then Rose Home and School Club. I have served on the SSCs and PTAs at both Rancho and MHS. I was on the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee when MUSD started planning it's bond proposal in the early 1990's. I worked on the bond campaign itself and was a member of the Bond Oversight Committee until I was elected to the Board of Education four years ago. I was on the District Bilingual Advisory Committee, the chair of the District Budget Committee and the Chair of th Community Board Advisory Council (CBAC), again until I was elected to the Board four ago. I actively served on many committees throughout the district, prior to running for the Board of Education in 1998. I then felt I had enough working knowledge of our District to make a serious contribution to the Board. I have continued to stay active in the District and also our community. I am an active member of the Milpitas Kiwanis, Sister City Commission, Milpitas Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society anf the Knights of Columbus. Since being elected to the Board of Education in 1998, I have remained accessible and in-touch with our schools and community for the last four years. I plan to continue to do this, if elected again. I have graduated from the California School Boards Association "Masters in Governance" course. I attend seminars and classes held throughout the state to stay on top of the State Budget and it's impacts on our schools in Milpitas. I also try to become as informed as I can on new programs run in other districts and in new "mandates" made by the State and Federal Governments on our schools. I feel I am the best candidate for our Board of Education in this years election. With my family pitching in and helping and the experiences I learned from over the last 15 years, I feel I am ready to face the severe budget shortfalls our district will be experiencing over the next couple of years. We must maintain the level of education our kids deserve and our community expects. Together we can all work to overcome these finacial hard times. We can no longer rely on the State or Federal Government to help us maintain and improve our schools, we must look to ourselves. How bright do we want our children's futures to be? We must give them the tools to succeed. Join me and help us keep and improve the great school district we have here in Milpitas. |
