Quality of Life in LathropBy Robert K. "Bob" OliverCandidate for Council Member; City of Lathrop | |

Permanent Water Source Quality Employment Opportunity Quality Housing MixPERMANENT WATER SOURCE Each of the seven cities in San Joaquin County are drinking from the same underground aquifers. We are all in the same boat, as it were. Five of these cities, including Lathrop, have joined with the South San Joaquin Irrigation District, to bring a supply of potable surface water to the area. This is water that is surplus to the agricultural interest, made possible by more efficient irrigation. Making it available for household use will diminish the drain on the underground water and also replenish these supplies. This is a remarkable example of cooperation among these five cities! I was involved from the very start and hope to be allowed to see it to completion. While other cities have the money readily available, Lathrop does not. These cities would gladly pay Lathrop's share of the cost to get Lathrop's share of the water. It will take skill and courage to see this project through. I offer both as well as the knowledge of the project from the beginning and a personal acquaintance with the other "players" in this matter. |
