Critical Issue: Growth and Environment

By Gordon Hensley

Candidate for Director; Los Osos Community Services District

This information is provided by the candidate
I believe a building on existing lots is appropriate and I support a strong Habitat Conservation Plan to protect our Greenbelt.
Like most of our neighbors, my wife and I bought our home in this community because Los Osos is a beautiful place to live. While solving our sewer and water challenge is my first priority, I am also very concerned about how our community will accommodate the growth we expect as Los Osos reaches build out and at the same time conserve the environment we value so highly. Planning and development issues remain responsibility of the County. We anticipate many opportunities for our citizens and CSD to comment and participate in the ongoing update to the Estero Area Plan that will guide the County on appropriate growth for Los Osos. I support adoption of the build out number proposed by the Waste Water Committee of 19,233 people.

In addition, I have chaired the Environmental Review Committee for the past 2 years. We are working hard to produce a Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) that will provide meaningful protection and direct growth to the least environmentally damaging portions of our community. I believe this approach, coupled with the conservation efforts of groups like MEGA and SWAP, will ensure that a maximum of the habitat we all value will be protected and the community can accommodate growth when and where it is appropriate.
