WHY YOU SHOULD......."Let George Do It" I am uniquely qualified to serve you as City Clerk. This is my first time as a candidate for public office and I want to use my extensive professional background to strengthen our fine City Clerk's office by using 21st Century of business management and technology. To do so, I will draw upon some of my past accomplishments. My career has involved helping people understand, utilize and adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. From 1998 to 2002, as the third person hired, I helped build a $100,000,000 company. We were successful by explaining United States Postal Service rules and regulations and developing mailing and shipping software for use in businesses and government entities. I co-authored and managed the national training programs for customers and employees. We were told that our program produced the highest return on investment in the history of the United States Postal Service. In my current business, I initiate a process to review previously filed tax returns and determine if the taxpayer has taken every legal and appropriate deduction allowed by the IRS Code. I've been told the Bible contains 775,000 words and the IRS Code contains 2,800,000 words. During the past two years, 70% of the reviewed returns had errors or omissions resulting in refunds for the taxpayers. I have taught securities regulations and 98.5 percent of my students passed the NASD examination and became financial advisors. My ten years with KPMG Peat Marwick culminated in my being responsible for the design, development and conduct of state-of-the-art training programs. The programs were designed to provide leading edge consulting skills to members of one of the world's largest accounting, auditing, tax and management consulting firms. My accomplishments enabled me to be designated an Accredited Personnel Diplomate by the ASPA. I was one of the first in the country to be so honored. In addition, I was asked to be a member of the Publications Committee of the American Accounting Association. In giving back to the community, I was Treasurer of the nationally acclaimed Rehabilitation Institute (arthritic, stroke and spinal cord injury patients) and helped oversee the YMCA Human Development Center for battered women. I am currently a member of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce. My wife Patricia moved to Belmont in 1997. Our daughter, her husband and three children live in Belmont. I am a native Californian. |
