TrafficBy Joe DeVitoCandidate for Council Member; City of Ojai | |

Traffic congestion in Ojai a serious problemThe Traffic Initiative or Measure C is not the answer. It doesn't create any solution, but create more problems. The Measure would require the City to deny all projects excepts single family homes unless traffic is mitigated. There are so many worthwhile projects such as the hospital, the library, the bowling alley, the museum, and the skate park that will be required to spend an excessive amount of money to do studies and mitigate their project. Some will tell you that voters can just vote to approve a project. This is not true. Voters can only vote on legislation and not on specific projects. The Traffic Initiative offers no solutions or identifies the major causes of our traffic. They say it is growth. Facts prove that this is totally misleading. In my 16 plus years on the Council, we have done a number of things to make our community more pedestrian friendly and attempted to do what ever it takes to make our community safer. I would strongly recommend that we "sit at the table" and come up with solutions that reduce traffic. |
