Open GovernmentBy Alex EscobellCandidate for Council Member; City of Oxnard | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
An imperative function of a government is to tap the collective wisdom of its electorate by being open to them.Open government means having an open door policy to the residents and citizens that it serves. This entails having the meetings easily accessed by the community. This can be done by a number of ways: 1. On-line communication from the home to the meetingparticipants, previewed by receptionists.
2. Open phone lines to operators during the council meetings, with written messages to the councilmember.
3. Meeting places held in informal settings in the community where residents can come in to voice concerns, commendations or ideas.
The concept of an open government while not being a new one, is one which needs to be developed over time with methods that don't work replaced by better ones. I after being elected will work diligently to be at the forefront of this movement to bring democracy to a modern more user friendly style. |
