Project 184 is all about WATER. Hydroeclectric power is just a bonus. We need the water from Project 184.Project 184 is a system of lakes, canals, pipes, tunnels, and a hydro electric plant that EID purchased from PG&E for $1 when PG&E divested itself of ownership. While PG&E owned the project EID had a contract to buy up to 15,080 acre feet water (AF) per year for no more than $3.15 per AF. Current value is about $250.00 per AF. If the project had been sold to a third party EID would have had to pay the going rate to whomever owned the project. Now, EID owns the water rights to the 15,080 AF of water along with all the assets of the project. Nobody can take it away from us. Another huge benefit of the project was the acquisition of 17,000 AF of new water rights in addition to the original 15,080. This water would not be ours if we had not bought the project. This water will provide drought and fire protection. EID was right to purchase the project for $1. My oponent voted against purchasing Project 184. The only other director to vote against it was later recalled. |
