Safe Reliable Drinking Water EID's responsiblity is to reliably provide safe clean drinking water and adequately treated our waste water to its customers. We can no longer ignore health and safety requirements as some past boards and managers have done. No New Meters Sold Without Adequate Water and Infrastructure EID's first oblilgation is to its current customers, not to developers. We must never sell more water meters than we can reliably supply. In the long term the 17,000 acre feet of water rights from Project 184 will provide all the water we will need. But, developers, not current rate payers, must pay for the new pipes, pumps, and tanks needed for expansion. Recycled water, paid for by the devlopers, should be mandated for all new devlopment. Each residence using recycled water for irrigation uses less than one-half the amount of potable water that other residences use. Recycled water also reduces water treatment and waste water treatment costs saving EID customers money. Strict Accountability of EID Staff and Operations Lack of effective accountability has cost EID millions of dollars in fines, operational losses, and lost opportunites in the past. Current management is doing a much better job now, but oversight by the board is still needed to avoid costly mistakes of the past. "Results Management" rather than micro-management will help keep EID managers and projects on track. Setting well- defined goals and implimenting a follow up system will allow professionals to do their jobs while the board excercises its oversight duty. Results Management is a proven effective way to control costs and get more done without micro-managing. Cooperation and Teamwork Cooperation and teamwork are more productive than dissention and antagonism. Negotiation and compromise are sometimes needed to avoid gridlock and inaction. I will remain true to my principles, but will listen to other points of view to reach the best decisions possible. |
