Quality education and good schools happen when all parts of the community work together to promote them.
My late wife, Theresa Hersek, was encouraged to seek election to the School Board during a time when some of our schools were being seriously harmed from turmoil caused by intimidation, favoritism, divisiveness, and bitterness among students, staffs and parents. Many experienced and highly qualified teachers, classified employees and administrators were demoralized. Some left for other school districts. She, along with the present Board worked hard to improve the teaching, learning and working environments for all parts of the education community by promoting mutual respect, fairness and openness. I have tried hard to continue building on that legacy. Our School District's theme this year expresses well that sentiment, "We Build Futures Together". "Together" refers to all of us who want the best for the children of our community. Every student is important. Every parent deserves to be heard and treated with respect. All employees are valued as persons whose work environments should motivate them to do their best for our students. My many visits to our schools this year and conversations with students, teachers and other employees, parents, and community leaders, tell me that we have made great progress in promoting the spirit of cooperation and togetherness.
