Candidate for Governing Board Member; Santa Rita Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
We must stay pro-active and pursue all avenues to attain school sites in the San Juan Rancho Development.
We must recognize the very real likelihood that San Juan Rancho Development will become a reality. We must as a district, open doors of communication with the primary developers seeking to develop San Juan Rancho. At the same time it is paramount that we also open lines of communication with the Board of Supervisors of Monterey County, to have them fully understand the needs of Santa Rita School District.

I believe that major developers should be responsible for providing the land for new schools just as they do for ROADS and SEWERS. Developers have the means to recoup costs. They should be responsible for paying their fair share of the costs of new schools. If it were not for their new development, this district would not need new schools therefore, I believe that they should be required to adequately accommodate future students.

There are developer fees that are assessed at a fixed dollar amount per square foot on new houses and commercial buildings, but these dollars have always fallen short by the criteria set by the state for matching funds. Fifty-percent of the funds must come from the school district before the state will even consider matching the other fifty-percent of the needed funds to build a new school.

I will try my best to bring all parties together, face to face, for the common good of our children, the Santa Rita School District, and our community.
