Margaret is a first generation Californian born in Salinas. The daughter of migrant farm workers she understands hard work, dedication and the importance of a good education. She attended Hartnell Community College and UC Santa Cruz where she majored in Political Science. Margaret is honest and strong on principles. She will be a fair and impartial leader. Margaret will work with the other trustees to address the needs of the students. The next Hartnell board will face some difficult decisions on the future direction of the college. Margaret has the experience and proven leadership necessary to represent our district on the Hartnell Community College Board. Current Hartnell President and District 2 Representative Valerie Golden is endorsing Margaret in this election, as are Former Hartnell Presidents; Darlene Dunham and Joey Lasnik.

Of the five candidates competing for the seat that Valerie Golden is leaving Margaret Serna-Bonetti gets the endorsement of The Monterey County Herald. "She has spark" and "She has a solid grasp of the challenges facing Hartnell: retain top teachers, maintain quality education and prepare for the future by putting aside reserves to cushion inevitable shortages". Hartnell has been through a tough year of budget cutbacks. It is very likely that next year's budget will be cut as well. Margaret is committed to preparing for that shortage by setting aside enough reserves for that rainy day. She will work to raise the standards at Hartnell College. We need leaders such as Margaret Serna-Bonetti on the board.

Margaret has been married to Randy for 22 years. They are the parents of two sons. Both sons attend public schools in the area. Margaret is a graduate of the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce Leadership program and member of the Alumni Association. She has been active in South County Regional Health Partners, Ag. Against Hunger, Partners for Peace-Salinas Reads Week, Salinas International Air Show, School Site Council and chaired local fund raisers. Margaret serves on the Steinbeck Bully Task Force. She supports music, art and the local Parent Teacher Club at two schools.
