Full Biography for Gavin Newsom

|
As a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Gavin Newsom has focused on the core issues that make a difference for all San Franciscans. He worked with residents from every corner of the City to restore our neighborhood parks. When the Municipal Railway was in crisis, Newsom joined with Rescue Muni to lead the fight to address the problem, eventually sponsoring Proposition E, which fundamentally reformed the system and has been an important reason why service has improved over the last few years. As Supervisor, Newsom pushed to get a very successful $110 million parks bond on the ballot, and a guaranteed set-aside for the acquisition of open space and for capital improvements to parks. This bond is improving parks in every neighborhood in San Francisco. Gavin Newsom's career in public service began in 1996 when he was appointed President of San Francisco's Parking and Traffic Commission. Later that year, he was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Supervisors. Voters elected Newsom to the Board of Supervisors in 1998, 2000 and 2002. |
