- Dennis is a third generation Oaklander and nationally recognized educator with thirty years as a public school teacher, principal and Superintendent.
- He grew up east of High Street on 46th Ave. and attended Horace Mann Elementary, Calvin Simmons Middle School and Fremont High.
- During his term as Superintendent, Oakland schools made their most dramatic academic gains in thirty years.

- IMPROVE financial oversight and assistance to local districts. Alameda County has more troubled districts than any other county in the state.
- REFORM th county's juvenile justice schools and improve academic achievement. Current test scores are the lowest in the state.
