Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender RightsBy Tom HutchingsCandidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 33; Green Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
We all need to be equal.I served in America's armed forces and in law enforcement to defend the principle that we are all equal under the law. I did so with the strong belief that all Americans, regardless, deserve the same rights and privileges. However, I realized that not all have the same rights as others. I'm speaking about the Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Bisexual community. I want to help change that inequity. I support the position that people have a basic right to live authentically. Heterosexism + the belief that the only legitimate form of sexual interaction is between men and women- is a violation of human rights and dignity. I support the GLBT community and will sponsor and actively promote legislation that provides them with equal status in our society. They are entitled to the same rights, privileges and protections that married heterosexual couples enjoy. They deserve nothing less. I simply cannot understand the fear and reticence that surrounds denying GLBTs equal rights. It's a matter of human decency. I promise to actively work for their full rights and equal status. |
