Candidate for
Board Member; New Haven Unified School District

My name is Kevin Harper and I am running for New Haven School Board. I am a husband and the father of two boys, one that attends a New Haven School and the other that attends UC Davis. I have been a resident of Union City for twelve years.

My involvement in the community has included: Union City Budget Advisory Committee (Chair), Chabot-Las Positas Community Colleges Foundation (President), San Francisco Junior Chamber of Commerce (President), Oakland Chamber of Commerce (Treasurer), Union City Mobile Home Rent Review Board, Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (Performing Member), Meridien Court Homeowners' Association, Government Finance Officers Association, and Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority Citizens Watchdog Committee.

If elected to the New Haven School Board, my work with school districts will allow me to assure that New Haven bureaucracy does not get in the way of the teachers' work in the classrooms, and that our children get the resources they need.

Having served as elected City Auditor of the City of Alameda, interim Chief Financial Officer of the East Bay Regional Park District and interim Finance Director of the City of Fremont, I am well-qualified to oversee the District's $100 million annual operating budget and $120 million school bond issue.
