Political Philosophy for Carolyn Mansfield

I believe that Board members need to communicate with employees and spend time at campuses in order to ascertain the morale of the staff. While the Board's job is to set policy, it is difficult to do so without communicating with those who are to carry out the policies it sets. I do not consider this micro-management, but rather good management practice. Budgets are very difficult to manage when the state is in poor financial condition; however, there must be ways in which our district can become more competitive with other districts so as to continue attracting good teachers. We will have a difficult time retaining our new teachers if we do not address this issue. Additionally, classified employees' needs must be considered. They are, after all, the engine that keeps the plant running. I am interested in maintaining a high level of vocational and technical programs along with the core subjects. All students are different; we need to have a variety of learning environments so that each student can be successful. One program will not fit all students. |
