Political Philosophy for Lou Bone

The main priorities of city government should be the enhancement of our quality of life, the prudent use of taxpayers' money, the safety of the city's citizens and the maintenance and improvement of infrastructure, such as the city's streets, parks, sewer lines, water lines and reservoirs. Listening and helping residents and businesses with individual problems is the first step to citywide solutions. The city should be managed like a business. All successful private companies go out to bid on major contracts. The private sector is always looking for the best value, quality products at reasonable prices. I co-authored the ballot measure that required the city to go out to bid on its trash contract. Over 86% of Tustin voters agreed. The City saved $18 million on its trash contract and added recycling and free trashcans to residents. We need to work with private entities to build a new library without a parcel tax. Other cities have done it. Tustin can, too. I believe in term limits and was a co-author of the city term limit ballot measure. Over 78% of Tustin voters agreed that council members should be limited to two terms. Council members must be willing to work with leaders outside of the City to solve regional problems, yet fight for Tustin when necessary. Council members must be leaders who can plan for the future. |
