I was born in the City of Santa Ana and have lived in Ward 5 my entire life. I became involved with City programs as a young participant and have been involved in some capacity with City issues ever since.

As a participant, I know how crucial youth programs are in keeping kids busy and out of trouble. I realize that had it not been for a persistent adult and the availability of programming, I would not be where I am now.

As a past employee of the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Department for over 12 years, I know how the departments within the City operate and how the decisions and policies made by our elected officials affect the people who will implement them.

I have worked closely with the Santa Ana Unified School District in providing after-school programming for the last 19 years. I have also assisted in the development of a new school that will ensure that residents, both youth and adults, are able to take full benefit of the facility: day and night. I support education and believe it is essential to the success of our youth.

I support and promote a working relationship with the Santa Ana Police Department. I serve on the Department of Juvenile Justice Weed & Seed Steering Committee to address resident concerns, build bridges and develop trust between residents and our Peace Officers. My work was nominated at the National Weed & Seed Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2003.

I have been involved with a wide variety of programs and committees, including:

  • City of Santa Ana Empowerment Zone Corporation - Former Chairman (2 Terms)
  • Department of Juvenile Justice Weed & Seed Program - Current Board of Directors Member
  • Communication Linkage Forum - Former Vice-Chair
  • American G.I. (Veteran's) Forum - Current Member
  • Templo Calvario Community Development Corporation - Current Board Member
  • Santa Ana College Americorp. Foster Youth Mentoring Program - Current Steering Committee Member
  • Corbin Family Resource Center - Current Steering Committee Member
  • Past Grand Marshal at Kinder Caminata
  • Santa Ana Civic Leadership Initiative (SACLI) - Graduate 2003
  • Project ALISA (Active Living In Santa Ana) - Current Committee Member
  • United Way Multi-Ethnic Leadership Institute(MELI) - Past Mentor/Guest Speaker 2003 & 2004
  • Founded Annual Community Hero Celebrations in Casa Bonita Neighborhood Association (2000-Present)
  • American Cancer Society Santa Ana Relay for Life - Current Committee Member

I have received many recognitions throughout my years of involvement, including:
  • Congressional Recognition by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez for "Improving the Quality of Live for Residents of Santa Ana" 2002
  • Recognized by State Senator Joseph Dunn for "2002 Hero Award"
  • Regonized by State Assemblyman Lou Correa for "Neighborhood Hero 2002"
  • City of Santa Ana Community Hero Award 2002
  • Recognition for Community Commitment to the S.A.I.N.T. Weed & Seed Program 2003
  • YMCA of Orange County Character Counts Award 2001
  • YMCA of Orange County President's Award 2002

As a Community Leader, I founded Casa Bonita Neighborhood Association and have assisted in the development of 4 additional neighborhood associations giving residents a vehicle to voice their concerns. Family, education and safety have been our major concerns. We have been successful in involving residents; an effort, which has helped unite our neighborhood and increase pride. I believe change begins in the home and I work to change the neighborhood, one person at a time.

I was publicly recognized for my grass-roots efforts by The Orange County Register, in an article entitled "Building a Better Santa Ana" (9/16/03), acknowledging my efforts in improving quality of life.

I believe in building bridges and focusing on strengths, while putting special interests and differences aside. We must concentrate on the solutions to the problems we agree on and be open to dialogue on those issues we disagree with.

I promote citizen involvement in City decision-making. I am accessible and encourage you to share your ideas with me. Please call me at (714) 836-8514 or e-mail me at Roman4CityCouncil@adelphia.net

I build, I am committed, I strategize and I take action because I care deeply about our City.

I respectfully request your vote for City Council in Ward 5 on November 2nd.
