In 1985 I moved to Newport Beach after graduating from the Wharton School of Business with a bachelor of science in economics and the UCLA School of Law. Soon after, I began working for a prominent Costa Mesa law firm by the name of Rutan & Tucker; but I left there in 1987 to start my own real estate company that is now called Newport West. I moved to West Newport in 1986 and I have lived there for most of the last 18 years. My wife, Gina, and I also own a Togos/Baskin Robbins Franchise in Orange, California. My community involvement began about 10 years ago when I became a Cubmaster at Pack 37 on Lido Isle. Soon after I signed up as an Asst. Scoutmaster with Troop 90 at the Boy Scout Sea Base on Newport Harbor. There, I had the opportunity to work with the youth of our community. I am proud to say that since joining Troop 90, our Troop has graduated over 50 eagle scouts, one of which is my son Jonathon. Even today my commitment to the scouting movement is strong. I became involved in City government about 4 years ago and in 2003 I was appointed to the Newport Beach Parks Beaches and Recreation Commission. Soon after I was elevated to the City Council when my fellow Council members selected me from a pool of 6 applicants to fill the vacancy on the Council when the District 2 representative resigned. As I promised the Council the night of my appointment, I have diligently carried out my duties as a Councilman representing the residents of West Newport and Newport Beach as a whole. Anyone reviewing my record as your City Councilman will agree that I stand for a fair and balanced approach to City Governement and the issues facing our City today. |
