Issues of the Anaheim Union High School DistrictBy Margaret M. TrousdaleCandidate for Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District | |

Overcrowding, California High School Exit Exam, the No Child Left Behind Act, District Cut BacksThese are four issues of the district and my plans: 1. Overcrowding in the East side junior high schools - - Go into year round scheduling until the new school rooms are built on existing school sites. 2. Helping students pass the California High School Exit Exam - - In junior high, we need to concentrate on developing consistent remediation programs in reading, writing, and arithmetic. We need to continue to give these students support through high school until they pass. 3. The No Child Left Behind Act - - It's an excellent piece of legislation; however, it needs more funding. I would press our local congressmen to lobby Sacramento and Washington, DC, for more money for our schools. Without that, the No Child Left Behind Act is not effective. 4. District Cut Backs - - Give the highly qualified veteran teachers incentives to retire early. After all, just one of their salaries can be used to employ two new teachers. I would also consider trimming some of the after school programs. Because reading, writing, and mathematics come first! A vote for TROUSDALE is a vote for students and parents.
