I am a native Californian who attended a great public high school and I am a graduate of our University of California system (U.C. Berkeley, B.A., 1975). I am also a law school graduate (Santa Clara University, J.D., 1980) and an inactive member of the State Bar of California. I have lived in Santa Barbara since 1982 with my husband, Larry Harter. We have raised three children, educating them in our local public schools. I have been an active member of the P.T.A. since 1985, increasing my level of participation in our local public schools as my children grew older. I have served as a P.T.A. president and on school site council. I have been a committed volunteer to community organizations that focus on improvements to the quality of our children's lives and their education. I have served as president to the board of CALM (Child Abuse Listening and Mediation), and as a member of the Channel Islands YMCA Board and the S.B. Public Education Foundation. I have served on numerous S.B. School District committees before I began my term on the school board. In addition, I co-chaired the campaign for the $67 million secondary school bond, Measure V, that passed with enormous voter support in March, 2000. I am seeking a second term in office to continue the work that I have started. I have the experience and the knowledge to continue to build on existing community relationships and to effectively carry out my goals. |
