Political Philosophy for Seth Frank Cowen
Candidate for |

|
My name is Seth Cowen. I am running for Encinitas City Council because I think that America is falling apart and must be fixed one city at a time. Preserving and strengthening our fundamental American rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness will be my guide when making decisions as a council member. By running a zero contribution campaign I hope to set an example for campaign reform that will be followed through out the state and across the nation. I believe in practicing principles that will make the world a better place for lifetimes to come. I know that my goals are grand but I do have a few specific accomplishments that I would like to achieve during my four years as a city council member. Traffic is a major issue in Encinitas. As a council member I will contribute the conclusions of my own traffic study. I study the traffic of Encinitas every time that I am stuck in it. There are common sense solutions to a lot of our problems. Common sense tells me that the People of Encinitas are the best consultants for the City of Encinitas. One of my ideas that I hope to see through is the doubling in length of the left hand turn lane from the south bound side of Highway 101 onto Leucadia Boulevard. Another issue that I think is of major concern is the closure of the historical Pacific View School, which is now used as a parking lot for government vehicles and is proposed to be used as a giant office complex. I will do everything in my power as a city council member to see to it that Pacific View is turned into a school and off hours park. The sewer at Moonlight Beach is another reason why I chose to run for office. Where the turds meet the surf down at Moonlight beach there is a disgusting smell and an occasional spill from a sewer pump. By listening to others during the course of this campaign I have heard that there is a plan to fix the situation and I hope to see it through to completion during my term in office. The railroad corridor is at the heart of my campaign. I would like to see bike lanes on the railroad corridor instead of on the highway, and I would like to see planned pedestrian crossings and pathways. Unfortunately things like that have been being planned for a long time and who knows how much longer. At least for now I if I am elected to the council I will propose that city dollars not be spent ticketing pedestrians who choose to cross the railroad. I plan to focus on issues that other candidates and officials have chosen to ignore. The philosophy that the City government is here to provide us with infrastructure that protects and enhances our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should be the rule when allocating budget expenditures. By practicing this rule I hope to evolve our government to the next level of efficiency by decreasing the inefficient use of our public resources. As a council member I will work to make it the law of Encinitas that not one single tax dollar shall be wasted on paying our security forces to unreasonably search and seize our property for growing, possessing or consuming a personal amount of Marijuana. The vice of drug use is a constant drain on our resources and for certain groups within our government it is a seemingly perpetual source of income and budget increases. Public Safety should be about Homeland Security and not job security. |
