Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to revisit my friends in Oakmont and Santa Rosa.

My name is Mike Turnick. I joined the Santa Rosa fire department in 1954 and became Chief in 1974. I retired in 1985 after 17 years as your City Fire Chief.

One of my first objectives as Chief was to provide a fire station in Oakmont that would provide immediate emergency medical and fire protection. We also provided space at the Oakmont fire station for the Association that developed an emergency plan for Oakmont, under the direction of Captain Gene Cann. We were able to accomplish these tasks by working with the residents of Oakmont and the rest of the community.

During my tenure I received substantial cooperation from Joe Romano, the General Manager of the City Water Department at the time. Under Joe Romano's leadership the water department developed a long range water master plan, insuring that the Fire Department would have adequate water supplies for all areas of the City, including Oakmont.

Joe and I worked closely together to plan many joint Fire and Water Department programs, including emergency response plans for the City. I assigned Joe as my assistant in the Emergency Operations center, (which is activated in major city emergencies), because I know that Joe knows how to get things done under pressure.

Joe Romano is a candidate for Santa Rosa City Council. He has shown a great interest in and a commitment to serve the citizens of Santa Rosa. We are very good friends, but more importantly, I respect Joe and would like to help him make Santa Rosa a better place to live.

I strongly support Joe and I am asking for your help in electing him to the Santa Rosa City Council. Joe's interest in improving things in the City of Santa Rosa will benefit us all. He is willing to listen to new ideas and find solutions to problems and then get the solutions implemented.

Joe is a successful Santa Rosa businessman and is a retired Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff, who was disabled during a shooting in the line of duty. He has a business and law degree and is a wonderful candidate for City Council.
