Nayiri Nahabedian and her family moved to Glendale from Boston in 1986. After graduating from Glendale High School, Nayiri enrolled in the Scholars Program at Glendale Community College. She went on to UCLA where she earned a B.A.in Psychology and a M.S.W. (Master's in Social Work)from UCLA's School of Public Policy and Social Research, with a concentration in Children, Youth and Families.

Nayiri is a professor in the School of Social Work at CSU,Los Angeles. Nayiri is also a current member of the Commision on the Status of Women for the City of Glendale.

Nayiri is married to Sarkis Poladian, a school teacher in the GUSD.
