Dr. Susan Kane and her husband, Jon Fuhrman, live in Pasadena. Susan is a cancer researcher at City of Hope National Medical Center. Jon is an information systems manager for a major insurance company. Both have long been active in civic and community affairs. Susan graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University and earned her Ph.D. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University. After working at the National Cancer Institute, Susan came to the City of Hope in 1990, where she heads a research laboratory and helps oversee the graduate education program. She was the architect and founding Director of City of Hope's Training Program in Breast Cancer Research. Susan became Chair of Molecular Medicine in 2003 and currently holds the position of Associate Director of the Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope. A dedicated volunteer in our public schools, Susan was a Science Advisor and Trainer with SEED, a hands-on, inquiry-based science program for PUSD students. Working with the American Association of University Women, she organizes the Annual Science Day at Pasadena City College, now in its 7th year, to help middle-school girls learn about careers in science. Susan has also served as a judge for the California State Science Fair and was a Trustee for Alverno High School. She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Education for PUSD. |
