I believe that Emeryville's location in the urban core means that we need to encourage more urban infill, namely, replacing Emeryville's industrial uses with higher density residential and commercial uses. Emeryville has achieved economic vitality by encouraging such growth. Nevertheless, we must protect our quality of life from the impacts of more development. As our City grows, we must fight traffic gridlock, promote and support locally-owned/neighborhood-serving businesses, increase parks, and expand City-run childcare programs. We must also improve pedestrian, bicycle, and public transit access among our neighborhoods. Improving access to our everyday needs within the City will improve our quality of life.
