INFRASTRUCTURE: A healthy city is the product of a proactive government. The city council is responsible for making sure the city is managed effectively. Why then have we let so many things go, for so long? City owned water wells, sewers and our public facilities, including city hall, the library, the community pool and the recreation center, have been all but forgotten in the shadow of modern apartment developments. If we want to control our budget we have to plan for the periodic replacement of our infrastructure, not react to an emergency when things start breaking. As mayor, I will make sure budgets accurately reflect the realities of maintaining a city. I will work toward funding the repairs and upgrades necessary to bring us up to date on all of our facilities. Finally, I will NOT wait until the next election to make these things a priority. GANGS: Too many cities on the peninsula have let gang activity get out of control. The police alone cannot solve this problem. Our government has a responsibility to reach out to the community and find solutions. By working with community groups we can weed out the root causes of delinquency before they become police issues. When it is necessary to involve the police we must be sure that community is ready to support them and not feel victimized. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work with community leaders. I am confident that having our civic leaders involved in this effort will make a huge difference. GROWTH: While our city leaders have been successful in bringing more housing to San Bruno, I am not convinced that we have planned properly. I am concerned about the impact more people will have on schools, emergency services, natural resources (especially water), traffic and parking. I want to see a plan for providing adequate services for all residents as a part of our development planning. |
